Frequently asked Questions.

Q: What kind of people does Dr. Lev Borukhov PT, DPT work with?

At his NYC office Dr. Lev treats patients with chronic musculoskeletal conditions who have been to multiple providers without results. Dr. Lev also works with athletes who are looking to increase their performance by fine tuning biomechanics to get faster, more efficient, and stronger. How do these two types of clients get results? When evaluating a client Dr. Lev looks at the whole body, the 80 minute evaluation assesses your cranial bones, your breathing, how your entire body moves in three dimensions all the way down to your feet and your gait mechanics. Its very thorough and gives you a better idea of whats happening in your body. Once we know where you are we can get you where you want to be.

Q: How long is a physical therapy Session?

Your initial session will be around 80 minutes long. Follow ups are usually 60 minutes long. All sessions are one-on-one with Dr. Lev Borukhov, PT, DPT. You dont expect your lawyer, accountant, or hair stylist to work with more than one person at a time, your physical therapist shouldn’t either. During your appointment time you get your physical therapist’s undivided attention. I won’t even look at my phone. I promise :)

Q: Do i need a PRESCRIPTION for physical therapy?

Nope! In New York State physical therapists have “direct access” which means you can get evaluated and treated by a physical therapist for a musculoskeletal injury for 10 visits or 30 days! (Woohoo!) If you need care beyond that time a prescription will be required, by that time you we’ll have a better idea of your needs.

q: Can a physical therapist get me an X-RAY, MRI, or prescribe medicine?

Under New York State Law physical therapists are not authorized to prescribe imaging or pharmaceuticals. If, during our evaluation or treatment sessions, I think you would benefit from medicine or need some imaging. I will let you know immediately, write a consult note to your physician and coordinate care to make sure your medical needs are met. Making sure you get the best care possible and get better ASAP is the most important thing to me.

Q: I dont have time to come to Physical therapy. How many sessions will it take for me to get better?

I get it — you have a lot going on. Its hard to answer that question honestly until you coming for your initial evaluation. I offer early morning and late evening appointments to accommodate your schedule. Most people see significant positive changes within 4-6 sessions. If you’re not getting better with me, its my duty to refer you to the right practitioner, this is not something I take lightly. I promise not to waste your time or mine. If I don’t think i’ll be able to help Ill let you know during our discovery call or within the initial evaluation.

Q:What should I wear to my appointment?

Wear comfortable clothing that you can move around in. There are clean shorts and t-shirts available. You will most likely be barefoot so keep that in mind. Please arrive early if you need to change and get ready to go to work :)

Q: Do you take my insurance?

Dr. Lev Borukhov, PT, DPT has made a decision not participate in-network with any insurance companies.
Wait, wait… Dont jump ship just yet hear me out!

Q: Why are you an out of network/ cash provider? Its cheaper for me to see someone in my network.

It comes down to quality over quantity.

Dr. Lev Borukhov, PT, DPT chooses not to work with insurance companies because, believe it or not, its better for his patients. Insurance companies want to save as much money as possible, they force in-network physical therapists treat 4-6 patients per hour just to make ends meet. Ultimately what suffers is the quality of care that goes into a session.
Many times patients are put on passive modalities like heat, electric stimulation, then on a machine just to eat up time so their PT can manage the other 4-6 people they are treating at the moment. Passive modalities are a short term fix.
Unfortunately most people dont get better this way, and blow through their allowed physical therapy sessions until they are forced to pay for out of pocket. I won’t be apart of that, I have taken an oath to be there for my clients, again not something I take lightly. Dr. Lev Borukhov, PT, DPT takes pride in doing whats right for his patients instead of insurance companies.

Your health is your wealth and it is not something that should go to the lowest bidder. You get what you pay for. Other clinics might be cheaper. But they are not as good. If cost is what you value most, we are probably not the right fit for you.

Hopefully my rant above sheds some light on why I chose not to participate with insurance companies. What I can tell you up front is that your sessions will feel more like an investment in your most valuable asset—YOU.
